Ryder Cup Predictions
Well so far the Ryder Cup is looking pretty nice for the good guys :-) 4 points up going into the singles is the same place Europe was in 1999 at Brookline before the crash, but in that case Europe had three players who hadn't played before Sunday and Captain Ben Crenshaw stuck all his good players at the front creating fantastic momentum. Neither of which is happening this year. So here is my predictions for tomorrow based on approximately when they will finish.
Sergio Garcia beats Stewart Cink 3&1 - EUR 11 USA 6Sergio just looks unbeatable at the moment, his Ryder Cup record is second to none. I can't see that changing against Cink.
Colin Montgomerie beats David Toms 1up - EUR 12 USA 6David Toms is a great, solid player but this is Colin's turf. Ryder Cup Sunday. It'll be close but Colin will win.
Tiger Woods beats Robert Karlsson 4&2 - EUR 12 USA 7Karlsson is playing well and maybe being freakishly tall will work against him being intimidated by Woods, but we're still talking Tiger Woods.
Jim Furyk beats Paul Casey 2up - EUR 12 USA 8This is a difficult one to predict. Casey is playing great, both here and at the world matchplay, Furyk on the other hand is really the best player the US has in Ireland and has a great record in Ryder Cup Singles. Furyk to win in a close one.
JJ Henry beats Paul McGinley 2&1 - EUR 12 USA 9The US pulls within 3 with a win by JJ Henry over a quite frankly poor McGinley. All the Irish support in the world won't save him.
Luke Donald and Chad Campbell Halved - EUR 12 1/2 USA 9 1/2There are pluses and minuses to both Luke and Chad's games. A half would be a fair result.
David Howell beats Brett Wetterich 3&1 - EUR 13 1/2 USA 9 1/2World number 13 vs the US's worst player.
Darren Clarke and Zach Johnson Halved - EUR 14 USA 10Europe retains the cup in true up-close-and-personal style as Darren "Tragic Loss" Clarke holes a 20ft putt on the last to pull up that 14th point.
Padraig Harrington beats Scott Verplank 6&4 - EUR 15 USA 10Verplank has played terrible, when he has played. Harrington hasn't played particularly well but he really needs a win in front of his home crowd.
Henrik Stenson beats Vaughn Taylor 1 up - EUR 16 USA 10This all depends on how Taylor's nerves hold out. If they don't this win could be much more than 1 up.
Phil Michelson beats Jose Maria Olazabal 3&1 - EUR 16 USA 11Mickelson is not playing as badly as it looks, Olazabal is not playing as well as he looks. Mickelson to win this one.
Lee Westwood beats Chris DiMarco 2&1 - EUR 17 USA 11Gravy.
