Opportunities

"You've got the looks, I've got the brains. Let's make lots of money."

So said the Pet Shop Boys about opportunities, but these are others. I've been kind of out of it in relation to presidential approval ratings lately. All I knew was that they were low, and nothing had happened to make them go up again. What I didn't know was HOW low they had gone. The latest CBS poll has his approval rating at 29%, even Fox has him at 34%. This makes me happy. It makes my wife happy. If my kids were more politically aware I'm sure it would make them happy too. The trick is for the Democrats to be able to transfer this negative feeling to the Republican party as a whole. I won't lie, it's fun to be able to talk to someone and be able to make an educated assumption that they don't support the president, but he's out in 2008 and with the right choice in the Republican primaries his unpopularity will be as well.

If they do manage it though then the Democrats have a great opportunity not just to think about winning, but what they can achieve through winning. The first black president, the first female president, or even just a Ronald Reagan '84 style landslide.
